Here's a story from here in Atlanta. Robber tries to steal people's money (waiting in line to buy expensive shows, so he knew they had cash). Robber gets shot and killed. Problem solved.
From WSB TV (Atlanta):
"Customer shoots, kills robber at shoe store"
So, what happens if people aren't allowed to have guns? Well, the story tells us: "Witnesses told Channel 2 Action News the suspect had been pick-pocketing people all week long."
The story also gives this happy ending: "Atlanta police said the customer who shot and killed the suspect will not be charged, noting the investigation has determined he fired in self-defense."
I hope everyone in line got the shoes they wanted.
