One Night in Dublin, with Sara Lou
Oops, I said a while back that I was going to tell you about a great performance I saw in Dublin this past summer. Well, I completely forgot about that ... until now.
I saw Sara Lou playing at The Hub in Crumlin, Dublin. Monday night, 9:30p, July 16, 2012. Went until about 11:30p. Went with Pavel, a co-worker I talked into going. Met Pete (from Australia) and Paul (a regular at The Hub), sitting with us in the front row. Very small audience. Didn't seem like the rest of the bar clientele were there to see her.
Song list:
Folsom Prison Blues - Johnny Cash
You're So Vain - Carly Simon
Yellow - Coldplay (got a partial video of this)
These Boots Are Made for Walkin' - Nancy Sinatra
Linger - Cranberries (her best song of the night but my video recording failed - damnit!)
Jar of Hearts - Christina Perri (beautiful song, beautiful, I hadn't heard it before)
Dreams - Fleetwood Mac (great rendition of this song)
Yesterday - The Beatles (Pavel didn't like her version of this song much)
Your Song - Elton John
Hey, Soul Sister - Train
I Can't Help Falling in Love With You - Elvis (encore)
Just a fabulous night.
Oh, almost forgot one thing. Pavel took a picture of Sara and me after the show. Yeah, she's not quite as tall as I am.

For You - Sara Lou (new song from her upcoming album)Need I tell you that Sara did an amazing version of this song? Picture a beautiful Irish female voice singing these lyrics. Now imagine something way better than that. In a tiny club, where you have a front row seat. On your third or fourth Jameson. The night couldn't have been better. Well, I guess it could have been a little better. :) But it was just one of those moments in my life I'll remember always.

Song of the Day: Oh Land - Bloodbuzz Ohio (The National Cover)
Here's a singer I just found out about. Love her voice.

And here's the original. Different vibe when sung by a man, but still good. What can I say, I like the vibe of Oh Land's version better. And I like the female voice better. :)

Lyrics, from Metrolyrics.com (reformatted from that web page). The lyrics to this song are subtle, simple but powerful. I can't say that the lyrics are particularly deep (but they're deeper than I originally thought). In my opinion, the lyrics do a great job of conveying a certain mood--a mood that I find myself relating to as I listen to the song. Beyond that, I don't care to over-analyze it. I'm liking this song more the more I listen to it.

Stand up straight at the foot of your love, I lift my shirt up
Stand up straight at the foot of your love, I lift my shirt up
I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees
I'll never marry but Ohio don't remember me
Lay my head on the hood of your car, I'll take it too far
Lay my head on the hood of your car, I'll take it too far
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
I never thought about love when I thought about home
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
The floors are falling out from everybody I know
I'm on a blood buzz
Yes, I am
I'm on a blood buzz
I'm on a blood buzz
God, I am
I'm on a blood buzz
Stand up straight at the foot of your love, I lift my shirt up
Stand up straight at the foot of your love, I take it too far
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
I never thought about love when I thought about home
I still owe money to the money to the money I owe
The floors are falling out from everybody I know
I'm on a blood buzz
Yes, I am
I'm on a blood buzz
I'm on a blood buzz
God, I am
I'm on a blood buzz
