Song of the Day: Ingrid Michaelson - How We Love

Listening to Ingrid Michaelson the other day, I came across this fabulous song.  Achingly beautiful.

Classic lyrics:
We hate the rain when it fills up our shoes
But how we love when it washes our cars

We love to love when it fills up the room
But when it leaves we're cursing the stars

Dachau

One week ago today, February 28, 2014, I visited the Dachau concentration camp.  Sobering.  Haunting.  Something I'll never forget.  Amazing what people can do to one another.  Two pictures linger in my mind.

Main entrance gate to Dachau.  "Arbeit macht frei" translates roughly to "work makes free" which is their Orwellian way of saying that there was a legitimate reason for this camp, I suppose.  Can you imagine being forced to walk through that gate?

This is, of course, the gas chamber.  They could put 150 people in here.  The official line is that this chamber was never used, they never gassed people on German soil.  The tour guide was skeptical, and so am I.

"Living like you're dying isn't living at all, gimme your cold hands, put 'em on my heart..."
