Quick quiz: Who said this?
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that the buck stops here. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
Wow, sounds like a perfect description of what is going on in Washington right now. But it was Barrack Obama who said this way back in 2006. I wonder if he still (or ever) believed those words.
I know this will shock you all, but apparently Obama is a hypocrite. Mike "Mish" Shedlock points this out in a recent blog post. From MISH'S Global Economic Trend Analysis:
"Playing Chicken with Debt Limits: Obama as a Senator vs. Obama the Hypocrite President Today"
http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/2011/01/playing-chicken-with-debt-limits-obama.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MishsGlobalEconomicTrendAnalysis+%28Mish%27s+Global+Economic+Trend+Analysis%29&utm_content=Gmail
Mish's piece is very succinct and to the point; I can't improve on it. Mish's conclusion:
"...I urge Republican to take the measures Obama recommended in 2006 when he crossed party lines and voted with Republicans in 2006 to not raise the debt limit."
That's right. By opposing Obama now, Republicans would simply be following Obama's own advice and actions.
