Song of the Day: Eagles - Take It Easy

A old friend from college noticed that my last few songs were "so heavy."  Suggested I lighten things up.

This song was suggested due to the recent death of Glen Frey, as my friend was playing a bit of Eagles music lately.  Maybe I need to "take it easy."  Good idea, and good advice.

Letter to My Younger Self | The Players' Tribune

Here's a great article.  Hockey in its purest sense.  If this doesn't put a smile on your face, even if you're not a hockey fan, I don't know what would.

Song of the Day: Sia - Salted Wound

Final in my series of sad songs ... for now anyway.    :(

"Salted Wound"

Don't let love get in the way
Feel the fear and do it anyway
Take a chance, no it wasn't what you know
Take her hand and don't let go

Oh, ooh ooooh
You can do it,
Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe
Yes, you can do it
Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe

Tell her all of how you feel,
Give her everything she needs to hear
Give your heart, and say come take it
And she will see that you're a good man

Oh, ooh ooooh
You can do it,
Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe
Yes, you can do it

Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe
Yes, you can do it,
Don't break
Yeah, you'll pull through it,
You're safe

Song of the Day: Beck - Lost Cause

Another song for a sad mood.  :(

Beck - Lost Cause
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkNa5xzOe5U

There's a place where you are going
You ain't never been before
No one left to watch your back now
No one standing at your door
That's what you thought love was for

Baby you're lost
Baby you're lost
Baby you're a lost cause

I'm tired of fighting
I'm tired of fighting
Fighting for a lost cause

Song of the Day: Sheryl Crow - Crash And Burn

Sometimes you're in a certain mood.  This song comes pretty close.  :(

"Sheryl Crow - Crash and Burn"

Lyrics from AZLyrics.com:
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/sherylcrow/crashandburn.html

"Crash And Burn"

I watched the sun come up on Portland
I waved goodbye to all my friends
I packed my car and headed to LA
I gave away all my loose ends

Somebody said you gotta get away
To wanna go back home again
I left my universe standing there
Holding the hand of my best friend

And it's laughter that I feel when I think of you
It's one more dusty rose about to turn
I'll see you when I reach New Mexico
If I'm in the mood to crash and burn

I wrote a letter that I never mailed
I rehearsed a dialogue in my head
In case you ever wanted to track me down
I'll take my cell phone to bed

And it's laughter that I hear when I close my eyes
And it's one more punchline I forgot to learn
I call you up when my bottle's dry
I'm on my way to crash and burn

Antigone laid across the road
And let a mack truck leave her there for dead
Just because her lover split the scene
Well love might be great but why lose your head

Well, it's laughter that comes up when I cry for you
And my heart may break again before it learns
And I might be stupid enough to want to fall again
Cause I've gotten use to the crash and burn
I say I've gotten use to the crash and burn

Crash and burn
Crash Crash
Crash and burn

Song of the Day: Rilo Kiley - A Better Son/Daughter

Here's a song I heard a while back that YouTube was kind enough to remind of.  Captures a certain mood I've had lately.

"Rilo Kiley - A Better Son/Daughter"

The lyrics are straightforward and powerful, in my opinion.

From AZLyrics.com:
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/rilokiley/abettersondaughter.html

"A Better Son / Daughter"

Sometimes in the morning I am petrified and can't move
Awake but cannot open my eyes
And the weight is crushing down on my lungs I know I can't breathe
And hope someone will save me this time
And your mother's still calling you insane and high
Swearing it's different this time
And you tell her to give in to the demons that possess her
And that God never blessed her insides
Then you hang up the phone and feel badly for upsetting things
And crawl back into bed to dream of a time
When your heart was open wide and you loved things just because
Like the sick and the dying

And sometimes when you're on, you're really fucking on
And your friends they sing along and they love you
But the lows are so extreme that the good seems fucking cheap
And it teases you for weeks in it's absence
But you'll fight and you'll make it through
You'll fake it if you have to
And you'll show up for work with a smile
You'll be better you'll be smarter
And more grown up and a better daughter
Or son and a real good friend
You'll be awake and you'll be alert
You'll be positive though it hurts
And you'll laugh and embrace all your friends
You'll be a real good listener
You'll be honest, you'll be brave
You'll be handsome, you'll be beautiful
You'll be happy

Your ship may be coming in
You're weak but not giving in
To the cries and the wails of the valley below
Your ship may be coming in
You're weak but not giving in
And you'll fight it you'll go out fighting all of them...

Dilbert, on Trump

Did you know that Scott Adams, author of the Dilbert cartoon, is a political pundit?  Well, he is.  Check this out:

"Trump and Climate Science (Master Persuader Series)"
 http://blog.dilbert.com/post/136818042136/trump-and-climate-science-master-persuader

And this:
"Ranking the Best Political Pundits of 2015"
http://blog.dilbert.com/post/136261193951/ranking-the-best-political-pundits-of-2015

The key is to understand that Trump has incredible communication skills.  Here is a quote from Adams, from the second link above, that sums it up all too well:
Trump isn’t just changing politics. He is changing our understanding of reality by brushing aside the illusion that humans use reason to make important decisions. This extends well beyond politics.
And this:
In other words, I see that Trump is bringing a flamethrower to a stick fight, but most of you only see a stick in his hand and a lot of random, rude behavior. I can tell you with certainty that none of it is random.

Prediction is easy once you see the flamethrower.
