Fantastic music in this episode, including the song that is the subject of this post.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Anyway, I was reminded of this song by watching Scrubs. When I looked up the song I found out that Peter Gabriel's version is actually a cover! Seems like I should have learned that long ago but here we are.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I'm going to attach several versions. First two versions by the original artist (Magnetic Fields / Stephin Merritt), one studio and one live. Then the Peter Gabriel version. Finally, a video showing the end of the Scrubs finale featuring the song. What a great way to end a series!</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div>Magnetic Fields - The Book Of Love</div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkjXr9SrzQE" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkjXr9SrzQE</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div>The Magnetic Fields - "The Book of Love" (Live at WFUV)</div></div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoAydx7Anuc" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoAydx7Anuc</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div>Peter Gabriel - The Book of Love</div></div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmnDXRJ7btE" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmnDXRJ7btE</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><div>Scrubs | S08E19 | JD's Final Scene | Peter Gabriel - The Book of Love</div></div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTVpoT82toY" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTVpoT82toY</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Song lyrics (x2!) from AZLyrics.com:</div><div><a href="https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/magneticfields/thebookoflove.html" target="_blank">https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/magneticfields/thebookoflove.html</a></div><div><br /></div><div><div>The Magnetic Fields Lyrics</div><div>Play "The Book Of Love"</div><div>on Amazon Music Unlimited (ad)</div><div>"The Book Of Love"</div><div><br /></div><div>The book of love is long and boring</div><div>No one can lift the damn thing</div><div>It's full of charts and facts and figures</div><div>and instructions for dancing</div><div>but I, I love it when you read to me</div><div>and you, you can read me anything</div><div><br /></div><div>The book of love has music in it</div><div>In fact that's where music comes from</div><div>Some of it is just transcendental</div><div>Some of it is just really dumb</div><div>but I, I love it when you sing to me</div><div>and you, you can sing me anything</div><div><br /></div><div>The book of love is long and boring</div><div>and written very long ago</div><div>It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes</div><div>and things we're all too young to know</div><div>but I, I love it when you give me things</div><div>and you, you ought to give me wedding rings</div><div>I, I love it when you give me things</div><div>and you, you ought to give me wedding rings</div></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/petergabriel/thebookoflove.html" target="_blank">https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/petergabriel/thebookoflove.html</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div>Peter Gabriel Lyrics</div><div>"The Book Of Love"</div><div>(originally by The Magnetic Fields)</div><div>(from "Shall We Dance?" soundtrack)</div><div><br /></div><div>The book of love is long and boring</div><div>No one can lift the damn thing</div><div>It's full of charts and facts and figures</div><div>And instructions for dancing</div><div><br /></div><div>But I</div><div>I love it when you read to me</div><div>And you</div><div>You can read me anything</div><div><br /></div><div>The book of love has music in it</div><div>In fact that's where music comes from</div><div>Some of it's just transcendental</div><div>Some of it's just really dumb</div><div><br /></div><div>But I</div><div>I love it when you sing to me</div><div>And you</div><div>You can sing me anything</div><div><br /></div><div>The book of love is long and boring</div><div>And written very long ago</div><div>It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes</div><div>And things we're all too young to know</div><div><br /></div><div>But I</div><div>I love it when you give me things</div><div>And you</div><div>You ought to give me wedding rings</div><div><br /></div><div>And I</div><div>I love it when you give me things</div><div>And you</div><div>You ought to give me wedding rings</div><div>You ought to give me wedding rings</div></div>Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00349659946522453484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1274326317322268329.post-957921651395426692024-02-16T16:39:00.001-05:002024-02-16T16:39:56.155-05:00Song of the Day: Billy Joel - Turn The Lights Back On<div style="text-align: left;">It's been a long time. But it was worth the wait. Billy Joel has a new song out. Feels like his music has accompanied my life.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I've seen him twice in concert, once at Alpine Valley (classic amphitheater), in 1990. Once in Atlanta, in a major league baseball park, in 2017 (no, not Miami 2017, unfortunately!). He puts on a GREAT show, at any age.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://tblooming.blogspot.com/2017/05/song-of-day-billy-joel-all-for-leyna.html" target="_blank">https://tblooming.blogspot.com/2017/05/song-of-day-billy-joel-all-for-leyna.html</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Back to the song at hand. This song has so much emotion. What can I say, I love it. Particularly at this stage of my life.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I'll post several links to the same song. You'll see why.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div><br /></div><div>Nothing special about this video, just a great song with lyrics.</div><div>Billy Joel - Turn the Lights Back On (Official Lyric Video)</div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hexZ5hwia08" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hexZ5hwia08</a></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div>If you ever doubted what AI/ML can do, watch this video. Which means it is time for another Super Bowl halftime show.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Let you young people forget, there is ONE halftime show performance that stands head and shoulders above them all. Prince. No lip syncing. In the rain. Prince: "Can you make it rain harder?" </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Fantastic talent, at the very top of his game. He died way too young. I was privileged to see him play his final concert, at the Fox in Atlanta.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Last year I watched Rihanna's performance. So much commentary online about whether she was pregnant. Very few people commenting on the fact that she didn't sing a word. That show was terrible. All recorded and lip synced, which I guess they all are nowadays. :( I think she's great, of course. But that show was just a recording with no performance at all. She barely moved (understandable why, but still).</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Anyway here's the video.</div><div style="text-align: left;">Prince Performs “Purple Rain” During Downpour | Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show | NFL</div><div style="text-align: left;"><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NN3gsSf-Ys" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NN3gsSf-Ys</a></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT1DAabIibZrWzuuqhceEPlT4ExlQJrfTjzEq_WLzUVixMOv1f3QmFUH8LpJjeMEWkno7-YVSCf2sgEpsb3vl4pI5HGGRkerT-Qht2alrKvHhrvTTeSXQhuTYZB0HQYJVAoEXoC_IR76SyO63PlN-QPPkMVvqDBvLzyK0MB_Z8vAWNTujg_3Hb2EIy/s500/prince.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT1DAabIibZrWzuuqhceEPlT4ExlQJrfTjzEq_WLzUVixMOv1f3QmFUH8LpJjeMEWkno7-YVSCf2sgEpsb3vl4pI5HGGRkerT-Qht2alrKvHhrvTTeSXQhuTYZB0HQYJVAoEXoC_IR76SyO63PlN-QPPkMVvqDBvLzyK0MB_Z8vAWNTujg_3Hb2EIy/w400-h400/prince.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Scroll down, the comments are priceless.</div><div></div><blockquote><div>Pretty dope to see God is a Prince fan</div><div><br /></div><div>The fact that Prince was dry in the middle of rain storm is legendary</div><div><br /></div><div>He only got wet in the waters of Lake Minatonka</div><div><br /></div><div>Even the rain isn't worthy enough to touch prince</div><div><br /></div><div>I imagine mother nature was very honored to have been an integral part of a Prince concert.</div><div><br /></div><div>It was mighty kind of Prince to allow them to play a football game during his concert.</div><div><br /></div><div>Every Super Bowl performer before and after will never come close to this. Fantastic music. Finding a new artist before they've made it big. The song talks about a CROW (long story, but I love crows!). I found both videos below when each had less than 10 "likes" even after liking them myself.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Most importantly, it was my daughter who told me about this artist and this video. Do you know how priceless it is to be able to share something like this with your daughter? I wouldn't trade it for the world.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">County Clover is the stage name for Amanda Grayson (sp?), or A.G. Schiano according to this link:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://athfest.com/artist/clover-county/" target="_blank">https://athfest.com/artist/clover-county/</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Another link with some songs:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://soundcloud.com/amgrace1" target="_blank">https://soundcloud.com/amgrace1</a></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Finally, the music:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div>Clover County on The AMP</div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Oz26pep6qw" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Oz26pep6qw</a></div><div><br /></div><div>"Midnight Crow" is the first song in the video. But of course it is, it is a Prince song originally. Fantastic.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I've posted this song before, multiple versions. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><div>https://tblooming.blogspot.com/2016/07/song-of-day-prince-and-cyndi-lauper.html</div><div><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: left;">But I won't let that stop me. What can I say? I love this sad, poignant song about a failed relationship.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">But it's not all sad! Even though it ended, the singer has to admit that it wasn't all bad. First, the classic:<div><br /></div><div><div>Somebody's Baby (by Jackson Browne)</div></div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMeQ3LxA30k" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMeQ3LxA30k</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>And then the cover:</div><div><br /></div><div><div>Somebody's Baby (by Sidney Gish)</div></div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyeR6Rr-dPI" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyeR6Rr-dPI</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>You, my seven* readers, know just how much I love multiple versions of the same song, when covers don't just copy the original but add their own touch. This is one of those wonderful situations.</div><div><br /></div><div>I love the serious, sad, earnest longing in the original. And then I love the lighter, lilting, faster, upbeat version of the cover, which still somehow retains the intense yearning. Beautiful.</div><div><br /></div><div>Please, enjoy them both. I sure do.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Lyrics, from AZLyrics.com:</div><div><a href="https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/jacksonbrowne/somebodysbaby.html" target="_blank">https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/jacksonbrowne/somebodysbaby.html</a></div><div><br /></div><div><div>"Somebody's Baby"</div><div>(from "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" soundtrack)</div><div><br /></div><div>Well, just - a look at that girl with the lights comin' up in her eyes</div><div>She's got to be somebody's baby</div><div>She must be somebody's baby</div><div>All the guys on the corner stand back and let her walk on by</div><div>She's got to be somebody's baby</div><div>She must be somebody's baby</div><div>She's got to be somebody's baby</div><div>She's so fine</div><div>She's probably somebody's only light</div><div>Gonna shine tonight</div><div>Yeah, she's probably somebody's baby, all right</div><div><br /></div><div>I heard her talkin' with her friend when she thought nobody else was around</div><div>She said she's got to be somebody's baby; she must be somebody's baby</div><div>'Cause when the cars and the signs and the street lights light up the town</div><div>She's got to be somebody's baby</div><div>She must be somebody's baby</div><div>She's got to be somebody's baby</div><div>She's so</div><div>She's gonna be somebody's only light</div><div>Gonna shine tonight</div><div>Yeah, she's gonna be somebody's baby tonight</div><div><br /></div><div>I try to shut my eyes, but I can't get her outta my sight</div><div>I know I'm gonna know her, but I gotta get over my fright</div><div>We'll, I'm just gonna walk up to her</div><div>I'm gonna talk to her tonight</div><div>Yeah, she's gonna be somebody's only light</div><div>Gonna shine tonight</div><div>Yeah, she's gonna be somebody's baby tonight</div><div>Gonna shine tonight, make her mine tonight</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>* estimated</div>Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00349659946522453484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1274326317322268329.post-81485486313143048402023-02-21T08:55:00.191-05:002023-02-21T08:55:00.198-05:00Can People Even Count Anymore?? Fast Food Horror Story!<div style="text-align: left;">Okay, I'm ready. Bring on the robots. I can't deal with stupid human drones anymore.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I don't know how to categorize this story. Is it a funny story? Sad? Tragic? You decide. I ultimately called it a horror story.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">It all started with a visit to a local fast food place. Yes, I sometimes cave in to convenience and cravings. I went to the drive-through ("Drive-thru"? I guess we can't spell anymore, either) and ordered a simple value meal with a coupon, the total came to $4.76.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">At this point I have to admit, I am part of the problem here. Why? I still use cash when convenient. (I also drive a manual transmission, think the designated hitter and interleague play are stupid, and know how to count--yes, I'm old.) Why should credit card companies take a cut of every transaction we make? By paying cash I am incrementally helping the profits of the businesses I may have to re-think that policy. Many companies do not deserve this courtesy.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Back to my fast food value meal. Placed the order, saw $4.76 on the screen, and looked at what money I had. I didn't have enough singles, so I grabbed a $5 dollar bill. To make change easier, and to get rid of some coins (otherwise they pile up), I grabbed three quarters and a penny. Simple, I'll get a dollar back. Easier for the worker drone (I say that derisively after the fact, but I didn't have that attitude until after this transaction) and preferable for me. Win win, or so I thought.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I have the money ready as I pull up to the window. Girl says, "$4.76 please." Now, I've done this before, this isn't my first rodeo. I know people in this role are on autopilot, they're not expecting someone to pay with coins, let alone cash in any form. I know if I hand over the $5 bill first she'll just turn away and get change. So I hand her the 76 cents first, "Here's 76 cents." Then the $5, "And a five, $5.76."</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">By the way, I always state clearly how much money I've handed over. I learned this a long time ago, as a kid, when I gave a woman a $20 bill to pay for something at a ski hill and she tried to give me change as if I only handed her a $10. Now, a good cashier will always state how much money you've handed over, or say "out of [amount you handed over" to confirm how much money he or she has received. But most don't do this, so <i>I</i> take it upon myself to clarify how much money I've handed over, as I hand it over. If I make a mistake, they can clearly say, before they put it in the till, how much money they have in their hands. In fact, it is their <i>responsibility</i> to do so at that time, they cannot claim later I gave them a different amount.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">She turns away, puts the money in the till, turns back to me with a receipt and change, in the form of coins. "71 cents," she says. Wait, what? How the f#@% do you get 71 cents out of this. In order to get 71 cents in change, I'd have to have given her $5.47. Remember, I handed her a $5 bill and four coins--one penny and three identical coins. What four coins would give 47 cents??</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I had already held out my hand and before I could say, "No, that's not right," she had put the coins in my hand. I took the receipt but handed the coins back to her saying, no, the correct change is exactly $1. Unfortunately, I did this awkwardly and some coins fell to the ground. I did open my car door, reach down, and pick coins up off the ground. I'm not sure I got all the coins that fell, but I also got coins that were previously there. It was a dry day out, but the drive-through window was in the shade. Some of the coins I picked up were cold and wet, obviously they had been there prior to me driving up.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">When I looked up, with coins in my hand to give back, expecting to be receiving a dollar in change, I saw a second woman at the window. She didn't seem interested in taking the money that I was extending towards her. She was asking what happened, and I explained that I hadn't received correct change. She did not help me, she just left. I'm not making that up. The first woman was nowhere to be found, either.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Soon a third person showed up, a young man, seemed like another manager type. He also seemed generally clueless, but asked what was going on. I said I was waiting for my change. I told him that I had handed the first woman three quarters and a penny, then a five dollar bill. The bill was $4.76. I expected a dollar back, but was given 71 cents. I tried to explain it to him like he was five, because I figured that was the only way to get through this.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">He looked in the till and said that they didn't even have three quarters in the till. I said that's very strange, given that I just handed the first woman three of them, but it might be explained by the fact that some change fell on the ground as the first woman tried to hand coins to me but then I tried to hand those coins back. I then held out my hand with the coins I had picked up off the ground, one of which was a quarter, but I am not certain I got all the coins that had dropped.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Side note: If they don't even have three quarters in the till, clearly nobody is paying cash anymore. I guess businesses are cool paying a couple percent to credit card companies, over and over.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">The young man looked at me and asked me what I wanted. I said clearly: I want my food and my $1 in change. Or my $5.76 back. I said it in a way that indicated I wasn't moving until I got one of those two things.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Finally he reached into the till and handed me a dollar bill. I didn't move. Awkwardly he then said, "Did you get your food?" No, I did not. He reached down, grabbed my drink, and handed it to me. He then stepped back as the first woman stepped to the window and handed me my food.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">What a painful experience. It was seriously hard to watch that level of incompetence. Part of me says I'll never go back to that store. But another part of me was so amused/horrified I may just do it again, to see how it goes. It was entertaining, a glimpse of a world I'm happy to not live in. Like a horror movie, in a way. And there's the title of my post, it finally came to me. :)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">If you are a cashier, I have two suggestions. Learn to count, please. And confirm how much money a customer has given to you, as they give it to you. Cashier: "That will be $4.76 please. Customer: [hands over money]. Cashier: "Out of $5.76, thank you. Your change is $1." I know that most cashiers suck, so I take it upon myself to state how much money I'm handing over, but this is really the role of the cashier.</div>Thttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00349659946522453484noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1274326317322268329.post-6907453233890922382023-02-20T08:28:00.089-05:002023-02-20T08:28:00.206-05:00Song of the Day: Indigo De Souza - Younger & Dumber<div style="text-align: left;">Okay, that's enough for an uplifting song. Time to go back to the sad vibes. Not because I'm sad, but because this song is just so damn beautiful. Feel the longing in her voice, so much to relate to here.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">How perfect is the title, by the way? As I get older, I do look back, wistfully. If only I had known...</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Reminds me of a quote that applies. Actually, now that I looked up the quote, I see several quotes that apply. I'll just paste them all here, you decide. All by Danish philosopher Sören Kierkegaard.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><blockquote><div>I see it all perfectly; there are two possible situations—one can either do this or that. My honest opinion and my friendly advice is this: do it or do not do it—you will regret both.</div></blockquote><blockquote><div>People understand me so little that they do not even understand when I complain of being misunderstood.</div></blockquote><blockquote><div>Life must be understood backwards; but…it must be lived forwards.</div></blockquote><div>The last quote is the one that I first thought of as I listened to this song. Everything is so clear looking back.</div><div><br /></div><div>I can only console myself with the first quote. Yeah, I have regrets. We all do. But then again, if I had made different choices I'd just have different regrets. C'est la vie, I guess.</div><div><br /></div><div>The middle quote, well, what can I say. Even when I explain myself I'm misunderstood. That's why I just put it on "paper" here, for you my seven* readers.</div><div><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Great video, too. Seems trivial to say after getting so philosophical, but it's true. :)</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div>Indigo De Souza - Younger & Dumber [Official Music Video]</div><div><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJq6BgrEivY" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJq6BgrEivY</a></div><div><br /></div><div>I need to quote some lyrics that really resonated.</div><div><div></div><blockquote><div>Which way will I run when I want something new?</div><div>I don't feel at home in this house anymore</div><div>Which way will I run when l'm over you?</div><div>I don't feel at home in this town</div></blockquote><div></div><div>I can't be the only one who never quite feels comfortable at rest. Just never settled, always looking for the "next thing." Is there something wrong with me?? I posted a few songs along these lines in the past. Intense and beautiful, as usual. Raw and direct.<br /><br />This is not the first song of hers I've added to my blog. I went through lots of beautiful places, including Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Badlands, Mount Rushmore area, etc.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">For the record: I have a ‘22 Black Diamond, two-door, 2.3 liter, manual transmission. Its nickname is “Azulejo,” which roughly means bluebird, or could refer to those blue tiles you’ve probably seen but didn’t know the name of. The Bronco was fairly heavily loaded during the drive.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Bronco did pretty well, although it’s definitely not optimized for highway use. Mileage was in the low 20s, but dropped as low as 17 mpg on some tanks. Surprisingly (but not really, when you think about it) mileage was lowest on long highway days, especially in windy conditions. Driving at low speeds got the best mileage by far. Examples would be construction in Chicago with low speeds, maybe 40 mph, even coming to a standstill once in a while, and driving at a leisurely pace through Yellowstone. You’d think stop and go driving would drive mileage down, but that doesn’t hurt mileage nearly as much as the Bronco’s (lack of) aerodynamics.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Indicated mpg from the trip odometer was consistently 0.5 to 1.0 mpg better than actual mpg when measured against the gallons poured into the tank. Or, maybe gas stations are very well calibrated to read high, but not so much that they get in trouble…</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Stats are as follows, from gas records, although this includes a small amount of driving before and after the main drive: 3785.8 miles, 187.6 gallons, 20.2 mpg, $774.47 total fuel cost. I did sign up for a discount deal with “76” gas stations, for which I got a $0.25 per gallon discount by giving them my credit card info and buying through their app. This also covered Conoco and Phillips 66 stations.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The Bronco drove extremely well on the highway. And it was super comfortable. I never once felt like I needed to stop because I was sore or stiff. I have my complaints about the Bronco, but comfort is not one of them. This came in handy on the final leg of the drive, Milwaukee to Atlanta, which was over 800 miles.</span></p><br /><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Now some negative items.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I experienced this when going at high enough speeds and hitting certain bumps.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">2 Door Window Rattle/Knock</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><a href="https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/2-door-window-rattle-knock.56718/" style="text-decoration-line: none;"><span style="color: #1155cc; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; text-decoration-line: underline; text-decoration-skip-ink: none; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/2-door-window-rattle-knock.56718/</span></a></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I don’t like that the HVAC system seems to turn on the AC compressor by default when you choose to blow air on the windshield (front defrost). Sometimes I just want a light flow of air, I don’t want to run the AC! Ford should at least turn on the AC light if it does that, but it just does it silently. I’d rather have full manual control, personally. I’m smart enough to know that if I really need to defrost the windshield in a warm situation I need AC to help dry the air as well.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">At one point the bright/dim headlight function didn’t work. Maybe this was just for the one podcast app I was using (?), because it has worked in other situations. I’ll have to research this one a bit more.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Infotainment locked up from time to time. Appears to get overloaded, particularly when using Google Maps in conjunction with podcasts, phone calls, etc. Seemed to be better when using Waze, for what it’s worth. In any case, it’s certainly useful to learn how to reset the infotainment while driving (press and hold power and forward skip buttons) because you KNOW it will lock up.</span></p><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Fans seemed to speed up for a while, then go back to normal speed, without ever touching the fan speed setting. I had never noticed that before, but until a few weeks ago the Bronco had lived in California so there you go.</span></p><br /><br /><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Finally some pictures.
