Song of the Day: Marina and the Diamonds - Homewrecker

Okay, this is getting to be a problem.  Not that I'm posting so many songs by Marina, not that!  It's getting a little harder to find just the right pictures to add to these posts!  :)

This is one of those songs that is not written from my point of view, but it captures a certain mood that I can relate to.  Same thing applies to "Buy the Stars" that I posted a few days ago, and maybe to another song that I'll post tomorrow.  :)   Really, it applies to a lot of her songs.  Which is why I like Marina so much.

"Homewrecker"

Every boyfriend is the one
Until otherwise proven
The good are never easy
The easy never good
And loving never happens like you think it really should

Deception and perfection are wonderful traits
One will breed love
the other hate
you'll find me in the lonely hearts
under 'I'm after a brand new start'

And I don't belong to anyone

They call me Homewrecker
Homewrecker
They call me Homewrecker
Homewrecker

Girls and their cosmic gourmet vomit
Boys and their toys and their six inch rockets
We're all very lovely 'til we get to know each other
As we stop becoming friends and we start becoming lovers

And I don't belong to anyone

They call me Homewrecker
Homewrecker (I'm only happy when I'm on the run)
They call me Homewrecker
Homewrecker (I broke a million hearts just for fun)
They call me Homewrecker
Homewrecker (I'm only happy when I'm on the run)
They call me Homewrecker
Homewrecker (I broke a million hearts just for fun)

I'm only happy when I'm on the run
I break a million hearts just for fun
I don't belong to anyone

I guess you could say that my life's a mess
But I'm still looking pretty in this dress
I'm the image of deception

When everything is life and death
You may feel like there's nothing left
Instead of love and trust and laughter
What you get is happy never after
But deep down all you want is love
The pure kind we all dream of
But we cannot escape the past
So you and I will never last

'cause I'm a Homewrecker
Homewrecker (I'm only happy when I'm on the run)
'cause I'm a Homewrecker
Homewrecker (I broke a million hearts just for fun)
'cause I'm a Homewrecker
Homewrecker (I'm only happy when I'm on the run)
'cause I'm a Homewrecker
Homewrecker (I broke a million hearts just for fun)
'cause I'm a Homewrecker
Homewrecker

Moog Synthesizer

Did you see the Google home page on Wednesday, May 23rd?  It was one of the best Google Doodles yet!

Here is a recap, from the Google Doodle page.
"Robert Moog's 78th Birthday"
http://www.google.com/doodles/robert-moogs-78th-birthday

Try it, it works nicely!  Change the synthesizer settings by clicking on the knobs and dials above and to the left of the keyboard.

Song of the Day: Marina and the Diamonds -

Yeah, another song by Marina.  What can I say?  She's my favorite.

♡ "BUY THE STARS" ♡ | MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysckmplDbmA

You bought a star in the sky tonight
Because your life is dark and it needs some light
You named it after me, but I'm not yours to keep
Because you'll never see, that the stars are free
Oh we don't own our heavens now
We only own our hell
And if you don't know that by now
Then you don't know me that well

All my life I've been so lonely
All in the name of being holy
Still, ya'd like to think you know me
You keep buyin' stars
And you could buy up all of the stars, but it wouldn't change who you are
You're still living life in the dark
It's just who you are
It's just who you are

You bought a star in the sky tonight
And in your man-made dark
The light inside you died

Oh we don't own our heavens now
We only own our hell
And if you don't know that by now
Then you don't know me that well

All my life I've been so lonely
All in the name of being holy
Still, ya'd like to think you own me
You keep buyin' stars
And you could buy up all of the stars, but it wouldn't change who you are
You're still living life in the dark
It's just who you are
It's just who you are

You know only how to own me
You know only how to own me

You're buying stars to shut out the light
We come alone and then we die
And no matter how hard you try I'll always belong in the sky

And you could buy up all of the stars, but it wouldn't change who you are.
You're still living life in the dark
It's just who you are
It's just who you are
It's who you are
It's who you are
It's who you are
It's who you are
It's who you are
It's who you are
It's who you are
It's who you are.

Song of the Day: The Hooters - And We Danced

Here's a song that brings me right back to the middle of the 80's.  Ah, the memories!

Manhatten, Maps from Old to New

To copy a friend: "Awesome use of Maps."

From The New York Times:
"How Manhattan’s Grid Grew"
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/03/21/nyregion/map-of-how-manhattan-grid-grew.html

Compare an old map of Manhatten to a new map.  Amazing to see how true Manhattan has remained to its original plan.  Also interesting to see how Manhattan has grown, physically expanding around the edges.

Our Mobile Planet

As an engineer (we love data) and a smartphone user, I really enjoyed this link.  Check it out.

Our Mobile Planet:
http://www.ourmobileplanet.com/en/

It's amazing to see how many ways you can slice the data.  Compare smartphone data by age, gender, country, and much more.

Or, if you don't like the interface on the website, go ahead and download the reports for each country or the raw data in Excel format.
http://www.ourmobileplanet.com/en/downloads/

One thing that caught my eye, and this is something I've suspected for some time now: In the U.S. 88% of smartphone users use their phones for entertainment (internet, games, music) while only 83% used their phones for communication (e-mail or social network--doesn't mention phone calls).  I'm not clear why they didn't mention the percent that made calls with their phones.  I know it sounds silly to talk about how many people use their phones to make phone calls.  But I see fewer and fewer people using them for this purpose!
