Song of the Day: Adrianne Lenker - Anything

Sometimes a song just reaches out and grabs you, and you play it over and over.  This is one of those songs, for me.

I love the lyrics in this song, by the way.  From AZLyrics.com:

AdriAnne Lenker Lyrics
"Anything"

Staring down the barrel of the hot sun
Shining with the sheen of a shotgun
Careless little swinging sun
Joyous rays, we wanna come

Hanging your jeans with a clothes pin
Skin still wet still on my skin
Mango in your mouth, juice dripping
Shoulder of your shirtsleeve slipping

Christmas eve with your mother and sis
Don't wanna fight but your mother insists
Dog's white teeth slice right through my fist
Drive to the ER and you put me on my wrist

Grocery store list, now you get this
Brunch, had calls and messages
I don't wanna be the owner of your fantasy
I just wanna be a part of your family

And I don't wanna talk about anything
I don't wanna talk about anything
I wanna kiss, kiss your eyes again
Wanna witness your eyes looking

I don't wanna talk about anyone
I don't wanna talk about anyone
I wanna sleep in your car while you're driving
Lay on your lap when I'm crying

Circle of pine and riddle
Circle of moss and fire smoke
Fan on the ceiling like a wheel spoke
Push the clutch in and I pull the choke

Wanna listen to the sound of you blinking
Wanna listen your hands soothe
Listen to your heart beating
Listen to the way you move

And I don't wanna talk about anything
I don't wanna talk about anything
I wanna kiss, kiss your eyes again
Wanna witness your eyes looking

I don't wanna talk about anyone
I don't wanna talk about anyone
I wanna sleep in your car while you're driving
Lay on your lap when I'm crying

Ordering the stars in Heaven
Hurling salt in the sea
Dragging a new-born mountain
Didn't you believe in me?

You held me the whole way through
When I couldn't say the words like you
I was scared indigo go but I wanted to
I was scared indigo go but I wanted to

And I don't wanna talk about anything
I don't wanna talk about anything
I wanna kiss, kiss your eyes again
Wanna witness your eyes looking

I don't wanna talk about anyone
I don't wanna talk about anyone
I wanna sleep in your car while you're driving
Lay on your lap when I'm crying

Song of the Day: Frances Cone - '93 or '94

I love love love finding new music.  Before the artists become really well known.  Or even if they don't, frankly.

This song blew me away.  I listened to it over and over, as well as other songs by the band, when I first heard it.

And now here it is for you, my seven* readers.  You're welcome.

Song of the Day: Dragonette - Detonate

Not sure when this came out, but I think I missed it.  No matter, I found it now.  I love the vibe, just as I do with many Dragonette songs.    :)

Dragonette - Detonate (Official Audio)

Lyrics, from AZLyrics.com.

"Detonate"

Another level into another obstacle course
We fall another ten feet through another trap door
And I don't wanna find a safe way home
I'm right where I want
And I believe we belong somewhere in between lost and found
And I, I don't think it can be wrong flying too close to the sun

I swear this love is so precarious
If you're a spark then I want to take it for pain
And even in the tiniest dust we'll light on
We'll light on, we'll light on in flames and detonate..

We detonate
We light up and detonate
Detonate

Living in our own natural disaster
Not really what we want, but kinda what we've asked for
We don't need to find a place to hide
'Cause we've come alive
And I believe we belong somewhere in between right and wrong
And I, I don't think that [?] flying too close to the sun

I swear this love is feeling dangerous
If you're a spark then I want to take it for pain
And even in the tiniest dust we'll light on
We'll light on, we'll light on in flames and detonate

We detonate
We light up and detonate
Detonate

If this is our, our time to go
Is there a better way to explore
Fill up the sky with ashes and dust
And when it settles down, we will never ask for more

I swear this love is so precarious
If you're a spark then I want to take it for pain
And even in the tiniest dust we'll light on
Oh, well this love is feeling dangerous
You are a spark and I want to take it for pain
And even in the tiniest dust we'll light on
We'll light on, we'll light on in flames and detonate

We detonate
We light up and detonate
Detonate

Song of the Day: Molly Tuttle - Sunflower, Vol. 6

Have I mentioned to you, my seven* readers, how much I love finding new music?  Well, it's true.  I do.  This is a perfect example.  So talented, such a delicate touch.  Perfect.

Molly Tuttle - Sunflower, Vol. 6 (Harry Styles Cover - Official Audio)

Lyrics, from Genius.com

Sunflower, Vol. 6
Molly Tuttle
Produced by Tony Berg
Album ...but i’d rather be with you

[Verse]
Sunflower, my eyes want you more than a melody
Let me inside, wish I could get to know you
Sunflowers sometimes keep it sweet in your memory
I was just tongue-tied

[Bridge]
I don't wanna make you feel bad
But I've been trying hard not to talk to you
My sunflower

[Chorus]
I couldn't want you any more
Kiss in the kitchen like it's a dance floor
I couldn't want you any more
Tonight, tonight, tonight

[Verse]
Wondering headshake, tired eyes are the death of me
Mouthful of toothpaste before I got to know you
I've got your face hung up high in the gallery
Out of this shade, sunflowеr, sunflower

[Verse]
Your flowers just died
Plant nеw seeds in the melody
Let me inside
I wanna get to know you

[Bridge]
I don't wanna make you feel bad
But I've been trying hard not to act a fool
My sunflower

[Chorus]
I couldn't want you any more
Kiss in the kitchen like it's a dance floor
I couldn't want you any more
Tonight, tonight, tonight

I couldn't want you any more
Kiss in the kitchen like it's a dance floor
I couldn't want you any more
Tonight, tonight

[Verse]
Sunflower, my eyes want you more than a melody
Let me inside, wish I could get to know you
Sunflowers just died, keep it sweet in your memory
I'm still tongue-tied, sunflower, sunflower

Song of the Day: The Cranberries - Dreams

Classic song, from a great band.  Came up in my YouTube suggestions, after listening to some songs from Allie Sherlock busking on Grafton Street, Dublin.  If you don't know where that is or why it's cool, let me just say this: It's worth a trip, in my opinion.

I don't like seeing stars from my youth dying, by the way.  Makes me feel old.  And reflective.  Dolores O'Riordan was younger than me, something I didn't realize until just now.  Did her dreams come true??   :(

Lyrics, from AZLyrics.com.  Cheesy at times, perhaps, but I happen to really like them.

The Cranberries Lyrics
"Dreams"

Oh, my life
Is changing everyday
In every possible way

And oh, my dreams
It's never quite as it seems
Never quite as it seems

I know I felt like this before
But now I'm feeling it even more
Because it came from you

Then I open up and see
The person falling here is me
A different way to be

Aaah, la-a-la-aaah
La la laaaa
La-a-la-aah
La-ah ah aaah

I want more
Impossible to ignore
Impossible to ignore

And they'll come true
Impossible not to do
Impossible not to do

And now I tell you openly
You have my heart so don't hurt me
You're what I couldn't find

A totally amazing mind
So understanding and so kind
You're everything to me

Oh, my life
Is changing everyday
In every possible way

And oh, my dreams
It's never quite as it seems
'Cause you're a dream to me
Dream to me

Song of the Day: Van Halen - Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love

Another thing to talk about with my daughters.  Why is Eddie Van Halen, who died a few days ago on October 6th, significant?  Maybe this song, the opening guitar work, will help them understand.  This is what I think about when I hear "Eddie Van Halen."

Song of the Day: Iron and Wine - The Trapeze Singer

Okay, so I lied.  One more song with a fantastic wistful vibe.  I can't stop playing this song.  It's perfect.

Iron & Wine Lyrics

"The Trapeze Swinger"

Please remember me, happily

By the rosebush laughing

With bruises on my chin, the time when

We counted every black car passing

Your house beneath the hill and up until

Someone caught us in the kitchen

With maps, a mountain range, a piggy bank

A vision too removed to mention

But please remember me, fondly

I heard from someone you're still pretty

And then they went on to say that the Pearly Gates

Had some eloquent graffiti

Like 'We'll meet again' and 'Fuck the man'

And 'Tell my mother not to worry'

And angels with their great handshakes

But always done in such a hurry

And please remember me, at Halloween

Making fools of all the neighbors

Our faces painted white, by midnight

We'd forgotten one another

And when the morning came I was ashamed

Only now it seems so silly

That season left the world and then returned

And now you're lit up by the city

So please remember me, mistakenly

In the window of the tallest tower

Call, then pass us by but much too high

To see the empty road at happy hour

Gleam and resonate just like the gates

Around the Holy Kingdom

With words like, 'Lost and found' and 'Don't look down'

And 'Someone save temptation'

And please remember me as in the dream

We had as rug burned babies

Among the fallen trees and fast asleep

Beside the lions and the ladies

That called you what you like and even might

Give a gift for your behavior

A fleeting chance to see a trapeze

Swinger high as any savior

But please remember me, my misery

And how it lost me all I wanted

Those dogs that love the rain and chasing trains

The colored birds above there running

In circles round the well and where it spells

On the wall behind St. Peter

So bright on cinder gray in spray paint

'Who the hell can see forever?'

And please remember me, seldomly

In the car behind the carnival

My hand between your knees, you turn from me

And said the trapeze act was wonderful

But never meant to last, the clowns that passed

Saw me just come up with anger

When it filled with circus dogs, the parking lot

Had an element of danger

So please remember me, finally

And all my uphill clawing

My dear, but if I make the Pearly Gates

I'll do my best to make a drawing

Of God and Lucifer, a boy and girl

An angel kissin' on a sinner

A monkey and a man, a marching band

All around the frightened trapeze swinger

Nah nah nah

Nah nah nah

Nah nah
