Song of the Day: Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer - The Color Of A Cloudy Day

Continuing with another great song.

Sometimes you feel something so precious slipping away.  You know the feeling.  So do I.  This song captures this.  Beautiful and sad.

The Color of a Cloudy Day
Shelby Lynne, Allison Moorer

Gray
Gray
The color of a cloudy day
On the wind I heard you call my name
On the wind I heard you call my name
On the wind I heard you call my name
On the wind I heard you

Gone, and everything I did wrong, it don't add up to this
Lost, and I measure the cost in years without a kiss
Entire lives I missed

Red
Red
And I thought those old questions were dead
Every night I saw you close your eyes
Every night I saw you close your eyes
Every night I saw you close your eyes
Every night I saw you

Deep
Deep
I used to visit you in my sleep
Now I can never find you in my dreams
I can never find you in my dreams
I can never find you in my dreams
I can never find you in my dreams

I can never find you in my dreams
I can never find you in my dreams
I can never find you in my dreams
I can never find you

Song of the Day: Riley Pearce - Brave

I heard a bunch of great music lately, so I'll post a few songs in a row here.  Feels good to have some more great content.  :)

Let's start with this one.  The lyrics are so beautiful.  I think we all feel like this sometimes.  It would be nice to have someone by our side when we feel like this--but that is itself scary.  We dance.  We grow close, we fade away.  But we need to be brave.

Riley Pearce - Brave

Lyrics :

Are you scared? because I am too
This fear in my head has been there for too long
We sleep now with the lights on
Shadows make shapes in the light
And I don't know what they might be

Are you cold? because I am too
So cover your toes with a jacket,
and your bones with a blanket, I will.
She tells me that I'll be alright
For a second it feels like I believe her, 'cause
I forgot the way that I felt

I'm just trying to be brave
Ooooooh Oooooooh
I'm just trying to be brave
Ooooooh Oooooooh
It's the body of water that splits us right down the middle
I'll be coming back for you

Are you lost because I am too
Directions mean nothing in the dark when you don't know where you stand
The maps gone so are our footprints too
To get home now will take something that I'm not sure if I have left.

Oh, I'm just trying to be brave
Ooooooh Oooooooh
I'm just trying to be brave
Ooooooh Oooooooh
It's the body of water that splits us right down the middle
I'll be coming back for you
I'll be coming back for you
I'll be coming back for you
I'll be coming back for you

Song of the Day - Dierks Bentley - Travelin’ Light (featuring Brandi Carlile)

I don't usually post country songs, but this one is an exception, for multiple reasons.  I love the message and you, my seven* readers, already know how much I like Brandi.

Song of the Day: Youth - Daughter

I love the tenderness and raw emotion of this song.  The lyrics are brilliant as well.  I think it's better to feel sad--something, anything--rather than nothing.  This song gives voice to some of those feelings.

Daughter Lyrics
"Youth"

Shadows settle on the place, that you left.
Our minds are troubled by the emptiness.
Destroy the middle, it's a waste of time.
From the perfect start to the finish line.

And if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs.
Setting fire to our insides for fun
Collecting names of the lovers that went wrong
The lovers that went wrong.

We are the reckless,
We are the wild youth
Chasing visions of our futures
One day we'll reveal the truth
That one will die before he gets there.

And if you're still bleeding, you're the lucky ones.
'Cause most of our feelings, they are dead and they are gone.
We're setting fire to our insides for fun.
Collecting pictures from a flood that wrecked our home,
It was a flood that wrecked this home.

And you caused it,
And you caused it,
And you caused it

Well I've lost it all, I'm just a silhouette,
A lifeless face that you'll soon forget,
My eyes are damp from the words you left,
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.
Ringing in my head, when you broke my chest.

And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one,
'Cause most of us are bitter over someone.
Setting fire to our insides for fun,
To distract our hearts from ever missing them.
But I'm forever missing him.

And you caused it,
And you caused it,
And you caused it

Song of the Day: Damien Rice - Older Chests

Such a soft, beautiful, thoughtful song.  I could play it over and over and over.  And I am.

Damien Rice - Older Chests (Album O)

Song lyrics from AZLyrics.com:

"Older Chests"

Older chests reveal themselves
Like a crack in a wall
Starting small, and grow in time
And we always seem to need the help
Of someone else
To mend that shelf
Too many books
Read me your favourite line

Papa went to other lands
And he found someone who understands
The ticking, and the western man's need to cry
He came back the other day, you know
Some things in life may change
And some things
They stay the same

Like time, there's always time
On my mind
So pass me by, I'll be fine
Just give me time

Older gents sit on the fence
With their cap in hand
Looking grand
They watch their city change
Children scream, or so it seems,
Louder than before
Out of doors, and into stores with bigger names
Mama tried to wash their faces
But these kids they lost their graces
And daddy lost at the races too many times

She broke down the other day, yeah you know
Some things in life may change
But some things they stay the same

Like time, there's always time
On my mind
So pass me by, I'll be fine
Just give me time
Time, there's always time
On my mind
Pass me by, I'll be fine
Just give me time

What shirt should I wear?

Slightly delayed post, but better late than never.  About a week ago, I noticed that there were two NHL games on (and this happened several times, based on the schedule) where I had free shirts from all the teams involved.  Two were given to me at the door, two were nabbed when they threw shirts into the crowd.  You can tell that they're free shirts, look at the backs.  Almost all of them have sponsors on them!  For what it's worth, I'm counting my old Atlanta Thrashers shirts as Winnipeg Jets shirts!   :)

So, I asked, which shirt do I wear?

First reaction I got when I posted this on social media was from a buddy in Ireland.  He said, "For a second there I thought the yellow one said 'Let's go penis.'"  Of course he did.

Also got a comment for a buddy at the gym who knows me all too well: "Fake question because we know it's too hot to wear a shirt."  Touche, Harry.

Turns out I made the right choice.  I wore my Thrashers shirt, and the Jets kicked ass that night (May 5, 2018).  Then later, May 11 I believe, I wore my Capitals shirt and they took Game 1 on the road in Tampa.

As I type this, I'm not wearing my Capitals shirt and the Lightning are winning.  Hey, I do want a longer series, and more hockey.

So at this point, I think it's pretty clear.  If Tampa or Las Vegas want to win the Cup, they need to send me a shirt!!!
