Song of the Day: Fleetwood Mac - When I See You Again

This song is one of the best songs on a mildly overlooked album.  Hard for Fleetwood Mac to live up to Rumours, of course.

Anyway, this song always touches me, every time I hear it.  So poignant, so sad.  But better than never having had the moment, and now the memories.

Fleetwood Mac - When I See You Again (2017 Remaster)

These lines, in particular, really get me:
And the dream says I want you
And the dream is gone
So she stays up night on end
Well at least there is a dream left

Lyrics from AZLyrics.com:

"When I See You Again" lyrics

When I see you again
Will it be the same
When I see you again
Will it be over
When I see you again
Will your great eyes still say

What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby, baby, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby, baby

So she walks slowly down the hall
There are many doors in the hallway
And she stares at the stairs
Ooh there are many things to stare at these days
If she sees him again
Will your very best friend
Will your very best friend
Oh, have been replaced by some other

What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby, baby, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby
What's the matter, baby, baby

And the dream says I want you
And the dream is gone
So she stays up night on end
Well at least there is a dream left

If I see you again
Will it be over
If I see you again
Will it be the same
If I see you again
Will it be over
Again and again
Over and over

Song of the Day: Tracy Chapman (and Brandi Carlile) - The Promise

Two versions of this song.  The original, and a cover by Brandi Carlile.  It's just a slow, beautiful song.  One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.
Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
If you'll be waiting
I hesitate to mention this, but this was also my wedding song.  So it makes me a little sad to hear it now.  Nevertheless, I deeply love this song and you, my seven* readers, should know just how special it is to me.

"The Promise"

If you wait for me
Then I'll come for you
Although I've traveled far
I always hold a place for you in my heart

If you think of me
If you miss me once in awhile
Then I'll return to you
I'll return and fill that space in your heart

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
If you'll be waiting

If you dream of me
Like I dream of you
In a place that's warm and dark
In a place where I can feel the beating of your heart

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
If you'll be waiting

I've longed for you
And I have desired
To see your face your smile
To be with you wherever you are

Remembering
Your touch
Your kiss
Your warm embrace
I'll find my way back to you
Please say you'll be waiting

Together again
It would feel so good to be in your arms
Where all my journeys end
If you can make a promise
If it's one that you can keep
I vow to come for you
If you wait for me

And say you'll hold
A place for me in your heart.

A place for me in your heart. [3x]

Song of the Day: Charli XCX - Speed Drive (From Barbie The Album) [Official Music Video]

I love this song for a few reasons.  First of all, I like it as a catchy pop song.  But the main reason I like it is because one of my daughters particularly likes it.  This is my daughter who loves driving, so this song spoke to her.  She also had the pleasure of seeing Charlie XCX in concert in Detroit.  She thought hearing Speed Drive in the Motor City was pretty cool, and I agree with her!  Lots of Toni Basil in this song, creative copying I guess.  But only old people would realize that.  :(

Song of the Day: Morgan Wade - Time to Love, Time to Kill

And another one from Morgan Wade.  I love the vibe of this one.
Time waits for no man, baby
Time can go to hell

Morgan Wade - Time to Love, Time to Kill (Official Audio)

Lyrics from AZLyrics.com:

Morgan Wade Lyrics
"Time To Love, Time To Kill"

You said you moved on
I said I did, too
The truth is I'm at the starting line
Just waiting on you
The days are getting shorter
There's cold in the air
Reminding me of the nights with you
And the smoke all in my hair

I know I've made my bed and I'm lying in it
I was hoping you'd come here and lie with me for a minute
I know it's asking for death
It won't help me heal
There's a time to love
And a time to heal
A time to love and a time to kill

That restaurant we were gonna visit, it's for sale
Time waits for no man, baby
Time can go to hell
I miss you on Tuesdays
Our evening drives
I'm on the highway alone and I just close my eyes

I know I've made my bed and I'm lying in it
I was hoping you'd come here and lie with me for a minute
I know it's asking for death
It won't help me heal
There's a time to love
And a time to heal
A time to love and a time to kill

That restaurant we were gonna visit, it's for sale
Time waits for no man, baby
Time can go to hell

I know I've made my bed and I'm lying in it
I was hoping you'd come here and lie with me for a minute
I know it's asking for death
It won't help me heal
There's a time to love
And a time to heal
A time to love and a time to kill

Song of the Day: Morgan Wade - 2AM in London

I can't believe I haven't posted this song, or any other song by this artist.

I'm not even sure how I heard of her.  I think I saw another artist, looked at that artist's tour dates, and saw Morgan Wade's name on some of those dates.  So I gave her a listen, and I loved what I heard.  Amazing to think I might not have heard of her if not for that.  What other artists am I missing??

Anyway, here's the song.  The lyrics are exquisite.
I just need you to be here
I want two shadows on my wall
It's 2AM in London, baby
And I just want to come home

Morgan Wade - 2AM in London (Official Audio)

Song lyrics, from AZLyrics.com:

Morgan Wade Lyrics
"2AM In London"

There's a mini bar in my room
I asked the hotel to take it out
I know what it's like when it's late at night
And my mind talks good and loud

I slept all day with the jet lag
Tonight I won't be sleeping at all
You're in the States
Hey what would you say
It's 6 can I give you a call?

It's 2AM in London
And I hate sleeping alone
Between the neighbors that scream
And this TV screen
I wish someone would throw me a bone
I just need you to be here
I want two shadows on my wall
It's 2AM in London, baby
And I just want to come home

It's a good time to get into trouble
But I don't do that stuff anymore
My angry heart took a shot in the dark
And I found what I was looking for

I guess that's why I'm so anxious
I feel like we're a world apart
When I come back around
Hey, let's lock this thing down
Baby, I gotta give you my heart

'Cause it's 2AM in London
And I hate sleeping alone
Between the neighbors that scream
And this TV screen
I wish someone would throw me a bone
I just need you to be here
I want two shadows on my wall
It's 2AM in London, baby
And I just want to come home

It's 2AM in London
And I hate sleeping alone
Between the neighbors that scream
And this TV screen
I wish someone would throw me a bone
I just need you to be here
I want two shadows on my wall
It's 2AM in London, baby
And I just want to come home

It's 2AM in London, baby
And I just want to come home

Song of the Day: The Book Of Love - Magnetic Fields (and Peter Gabriel)

I was re-watching Scrubs the other day, because:
1) It's a great show that I loved back in the day, and
2) Yes, I'm listening to the rewatch podcast, and gradually rewatching the show.

This is the podcast:
Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach and Donald

They reached the Season 8 finale, which is the true series finale (season 9 wasn't the same show).  Fantastic music in this episode, including the song that is the subject of this post.

Anyway, I was reminded of this song by watching Scrubs.  When I looked up the song I found out that Peter Gabriel's version is actually a cover!  Seems like I should have learned that long ago but here we are.

I'm going to attach several versions.  First two versions by the original artist (Magnetic Fields / Stephin Merritt), one studio and one live.  Then the Peter Gabriel version.  Finally, a video showing the end of the Scrubs finale featuring the song.  What a great way to end a series!

"The Book Of Love"

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures
and instructions for dancing
but I, I love it when you read to me
and you, you can read me anything

The book of love has music in it
In fact that's where music comes from
Some of it is just transcendental
Some of it is just really dumb
but I, I love it when you sing to me
and you, you can sing me anything

The book of love is long and boring
and written very long ago
It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes
and things we're all too young to know
but I, I love it when you give me things
and you, you ought to give me wedding rings
I, I love it when you give me things
and you, you ought to give me wedding rings

Peter Gabriel Lyrics
"The Book Of Love"
(originally by The Magnetic Fields)
(from "Shall We Dance?" soundtrack)

The book of love is long and boring
No one can lift the damn thing
It's full of charts and facts and figures

But I
I love it when you read to me
And you
You can read me anything

The book of love has music in it

Some of it's just transcendental
Some of it's just really dumb

But I

Song of the Day: Billy Joel - Turn The Lights Back On

It's been a long time.  But it was worth the wait.  Billy Joel has a new song out.  Feels like his music has accompanied my life.

I've seen him twice in concert, once at Alpine Valley (classic amphitheater), in 1990.  Once in Atlanta, in a major league baseball park, in 2017 (no, not Miami 2017, unfortunately!).  He puts on a GREAT show, at any age.

Back to the song at hand.  This song has so much emotion.  What can I say, I love it.  Particularly at this stage of my life.

I'll post several links to the same song.  You'll see why.

Nothing special about this video, just a great song with lyrics.

And of course, to complete the hat trick, here's the third version of the same song.  Live at MSG, naturally.

Lyrics, from AZLyrics.com:

"Turn The Lights Back On" lyrics
Billy Joel

Please open the door
Nothing is different, we've been here before
Pacing these halls
Trying to talk over the silence
And pride sticks out its tongue
Laughs at the portrait that we've become
Stuck in a frame, unable to change
I was wrong

I'm late, but I'm here right now
Though I used to be romantic
I forgot somehow
Time can make you blind
But I see you now
As we're laying in the darkness
Did I wait too long
To turn the lights back on?

Here, stuck on a hill
Outsiders inside the home that we built
The cold settles in
It's been a long winter of indifference
And maybe you love me, maybe you don't
Maybe you'll learn to, maybe you won't
You've had enough, but I won't give up
On you

I'm late, but I'm here right now
And I'm tryin' to find the magic
That we lost somehow
Maybe I was blind
But I see you now
As we're laying in the darkness
Did I wait too long
To turn the lights back on?

I'm late, but I'm here right now
Is there still time for forgiveness?
Won't you tell me how?
I can't read your mind
But I see you now
As we're layin' in the darkness
Did I wait too long
To turn the lights back on?

I'm here right now
Yes, I'm here right now
Looking for forgiveness
I can see as we're laying in the darkness
Yeah, as we're laying in the darkness
Did I wait too long
To turn the lights back on?

Song of the Day: Prince Performs “Purple Rain” During Downpour | Super Bowl XLI

Once again, it's time for a Super Bowl.  Which means it is time for another Super Bowl halftime show.

Let you young people forget, there is ONE halftime show performance that stands head and shoulders above them all.  Prince.  No lip syncing.  In the rain.  Prince: "Can you make it rain harder?"

Fantastic talent, at the very top of his game.  He died way too young.  I was privileged to see him play his final concert, at the Fox in Atlanta.

Last year I watched Rihanna's performance.  So much commentary online about whether she was pregnant.  Very few people commenting on the fact that she didn't sing a word.  That show was terrible.  All recorded and lip synced, which I guess they all are nowadays.   :(   I think she's great, of course.  But that show was just a recording with no performance at all.  She barely moved (understandable why, but still).

Anyway here's the video.
Prince Performs “Purple Rain” During Downpour | Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show | NFL

Scroll down, the comments are priceless.
Pretty dope to see God is a Prince fan

The fact that Prince was dry in the middle of rain storm is legendary

He only got wet in the waters of Lake Minatonka

Even the rain isn't worthy enough to touch prince

I imagine mother nature was very honored to have been an integral part of a Prince concert.

It was mighty kind of Prince to allow them to play a football game during his concert.

Every Super Bowl performer before and after will never come close to this. This isn't just a great Super Bowl performance. It's one of the greatest performances in music history.

I come to watch this after every superbowl halftime show just to remind myself that no halftime will ever compare to how incredible this performance was
